Behind the wheel of this particular blue-and-white berlinette was the legendary French rally driver Jean-Luc Thérier, with Marcel Callewaert as co-driver. The historic achievement in Corsica The 1973 Tour de Corse was the 13th and final round of the first official World Rally Championship (WRC). Alpine-Renault had secured the constructors' title that season early, but closed the year domestically with an unprecedented demonstration of dominance. Thérier and Callewaert fought in the number #7 car to a third place on the stage. The full stage was occupied by the Alpine A110 edition: #1 Jean-Pierre Nicolas / Michel Vial #5 Jean-François Piot / Jean de Alexandris #7 Jean-Luc Thérier / Marcel Callewaert Specifications of the real factory car Where the standard street cars had lighter engines, this factory car (Works Car) was specifically groomed for the rugged Corsican tarmac: Engine: Rear placed 1.8-litre (1796 cc) four-cylinder Cléon-Alu engine. Power: About 175 hp, which was a huge amount for a car of this size at the time. Weight: Only 710 kg.
